Too often, said the archbishop, inaccurate news reports about this controversy have left the impression that “access to Holy Communion … is like having bar privileges at the Elks Club.”

The Weather Underground is a sore spot for me. I’m funny that way about people who try to kill me.

Following up on my very first post, Michelle Malkin asks a fairly obvious question: Where in the hell did Rahm Emmanuel get his wealth from in the financial services industry when he never majored in Finance while in school?
Surely, Ms. Malkin, you’re not suggesting that he was hired as much for his political connections as for his ability to pick winning cattle futures arbitrage opportunities?
During his brief time on the board, the company hatched a plan to enhance its political muscle. That scheme, also reviewed by the board, led to a record $3.8 million fine from the Federal Election Commission for illegally using corporate resources to host fundraisers for politicians. Emanuel was the beneficiary of one of those parties after he left the board and ran in 2002 for a seat in Congress from the North Side of Chicago.

The ignorance of Canadians is not simply a matter of the limited horizon of the citizen, but part of it is willful and imposed because Canadian political scientists and historians determined, without bothering to study the sources, that Canada’s history is progressive; what’s important is to come, and not what has occurred. It’s as if to confirm Aldous Huxley’s warning that modern tyranny requires ignorance of hist ory. With Huxley’s Brave New World still in their memories, the students feel cheated at having their history taken away from them. I am not above turning the resentment undergraduates have against their rulers and elders into a healthy skepticism toward the ideology of progressivism that reigns strongly in Canada, perhaps even more strongly than in the United States. There is something satisfying with turning youthful attitudes against the unseemly youthful attitudes of the old.

Kevin De Cock, director of the World Health Organisation’s HIV/AIDS department, said there is no scientific evidence showing that condom use spurs people to take more sexual risks.
From Reuters, where the rubber hits the road. Followup question: are there people who buy condoms to prevent themselves from ever having sex?

Still, I’m several time-zones away and a bit jet-lagged so I misread his scornful reference to “David Frum and his ilk” as “David Frum and his elk“.

By using the word “Penis” and “Mark Steyn” in the same post, I appear to have hit some kind of career milestone on this blog for hits in a single day. Perhaps if I worked in “Viagra” “Mortage Broker” and “Score with Women” I could max out for the year.
UPDATE: Welcome SteynOnline readers — all 1.0 Trillion of you. Looks like I have to apply for a Federal Stimulus Package from The One to handle all the increased web traffic which threatens to lock me out of my WordPress blog for a month.
UPPERDATE: You know, I really need to spruce the joint up. I mean, its terribly rude of me to go whoring around for hits like I do (“you do?” – editor) and then neglecting to craft my own blog roll. Blazing Cat Fur was kind enough to list me as an official Section 13 Thought Criminal on her blog and the least I could do is reciprocate by listing BCF on my Top Ten List of Smoking Hot Conservative Female Canadian Bloggers (plug that into google and see what you get) — Small Dead Animals, Five Feet of Fury, the vastly underrated Joan Tintor, BCF and several others whose names escape me but who have pretty nice avatars to go with their stiletto prose.
UPPERCANADAUPDATE: Its interesting to watch the IP hits as the sun sets on the west coast. In the morning, I expect to be able to unite this country from sea to shining sea. The seas that haven’t dried up from out of control global warming, I mean.

The real treat is in the comments on Youtube. Fr Robert Barron appears as wordonfirevideo to joust with his critics. My favorite:
Where or how did you empirically verify the principle that truth is reducible to the empirically verifiable?
